Facebook Posting Temporarily Disabled

Folks, we’ve been getting FB duplicate postings ever since Facebook launched their new news feed. Today, the duplicates increased in even greater frequency. We are still trying to resolve this issue with Facebook. However, due to major inconsistent behavior in their OpenStream API, we have decided to temporarily disable all Facebook sharing until further notice.

We fully apologize for this inconvenience. I am very grateful for your patience in this and we appreciate greatly folks who have been consistently using our Facebook sharing feature despite the duplicate issue. We promise to get this resolved ASAP. We are now working to getting a reasonable workaround in place.

Thank you.

Duplicate Postings on Facebook

Apologies to all. We’ve been getting duplicate Sharein postings on Facebook lately ever since they came out with their new newsfeed implementation. It’s unfortunately a Facebook bug that we are closely monitoring. We will work on a workaround against this but fear we might need to wait on Facebook on the final resolution. Stay tuned.

Facebook Pages and Simultaneous Posting

It’s been a good two months since we announced our last major update. We’re proud to announce the addition of some new features related to Facebook.

Sharing to Facebook Pages
We’ve received quite a few requests for this feature. Well now you can do it! To enable this follow the instructions here (http://tr.my/9aw).

Simultaneous Posting to Facebook and Twitter
Also another very popular request item. Now easily done.

Re-sharing a Facebook item
By default Facebook does not provide a “share” link to any item posted by a 3rd party. Well we found a way to sidestep that and allow your Facebook shares to be re-shared. Not just in Facebook, but also out to Twitter and email as well. We believe it will greatly increase the virality of your shared item.

Please do provide us feedback on these new features. Thanks.

Growing Pains

Fellow Sharein users,

We have been experiencing a severe slowdown on our service due to a sudden spike in usage. It started about 15 hours ago when two technology blogs (Mashable and ReadWriteWeb) wrote very positive articles about us. The combined readership of these two blogs come close to 3M users.

Mashable: http://tr.my/2b7
ReadWriteWeb: http://tr.my/2Y5

We apologize profusely for the delay in our service. This has taken us a bit by surprise and we are currently working feverishly to address our performance hot spots.

In the meantime, importing of bookmarks has been temporarily disabled. We encountered far more usage in users porting over their Delicious bookmarks, many importing by the thousands! We will re-enable this feature once we address our performance issues.

Thank you so much for your patience.

New Facebook Sharing and Bookmarking

One month after the launch of Sharein and we’ve completely revamped our Facebook functionality! We knew our ability to share links to Facebook was the weakest point so we dedicated all our resources to making it the best in the market today. We hope you’ll enjoy it.

Facebook Connect

First and foremost, is the ability now to sign up and log in with your Facebook profile. No more additional username and password to memorize. Use your existing Facebook profile and we’ll take care of the rest.

If you have an existing Sharein account already, make sure to link your Facebook account first to take advantage of all the cool new Facebook features.

Two-Click Sharing

Facebook sharing is now as easy as our Twitter sharing function. Only two clicks to share to your Facebook account. Again, make sure to link your Facebook account to Sharein first in order get this functionality.

Thumbnail of Webpage

Now when you share to Facebook we will retrieve the actual thumbnail of the webpage. So you can now preview the image before hand. We believe this visual cue is superior to Facebook’s current implementation.

Digg and Tweetmeme Integration

When you share a link on Facebook, we include the total number of Diggs the article/video has, as well as the total number of re-tweets as tracked by Tweetmeme. We believe this will increase the likelihood of your friends clicking through.

YouTube Video Integration

We do the same value-add for YouTube videos as well. When you share a YouTube video on Facebook, we now allow in-line viewing of the video from within the Facebook page. In addition, we provide additional YouTube information such as ratings and total views.

Facebook Interation Statistics

When you go to the summary page of your shared article, you can now view any “likes” and comments that your Facebook share has accumulated. Sharein now captures and saves all these information for you as the one single point of capturing all the interactions when you share to Facebook, Twitter and email.

Bookmarking

In addition to revamping our Facebook functionality, we’ve also enhanced our bookmarking abilities.

Easier Navigation

Navigation to your bookmarks is now much easier and faster as we’ve moved bookmarking to be a top-level navigation item by its own right. Previously it was buried under the “My Shares” section.

Tagging

Tagging has also been greatly enhanced. You can tag your favorite shares in-line.

Importing Bookmarks

You can now import your existing bookmarks from Delicious, your web browser and other sites that standardize their bookmark export page.

Phew. That’s all we did in one month. We’re very excited with this release and we hope to hear more from you on how we can further improve Sharein and make this tool truly the best way to share links to friends, family and customers.

An Auspicious Start

Last Thursday we did a soft launch of Sharein. Mashable picked up our story and gave us an awesome review! Since then, we’ve been getting very favorable tweets and mentions. Over a thousand new users tried us overnight and the trend is growing at a very healthy clip. At Sharein, we are in awe. Your response has exceeded our wildest expectations. We are so thankful to our users and delight to hear how they are enjoying Sharein.

A few other sites have also picked up on the launch. It really surprised us how the international community has embraced Sharein. We had reviews in French, Italian, Spanish, Hungarian and Arabic. And this is just day five!

We’ve also collecting feedback from you, our users. A few ideas are starting take shape. We’re seeing a need for simultaneous posting to Twitter AND Facebook in one go. We’re seeing folks asking for better management of their bookmarks. The ability to delete, make changes to the bookmarks, tag them etc. are all coming.

One thing we weren’t sure how well the community would embrace was the advance influence tracking we provided. Are users only interested in the simplicity and convenience of the bookmarklet, or are users very much interested in tracking their impact and influence? With time we will get more data points on usage and will use this to guide our product roadmap.

In the meantime, we are really appreciative of any feedback, either product improvements or new functionality you’d like us to create. We want to build Sharein based on what you, the user wants. So go ahead. Send us your feedback and ideas. We are waiting to hear from you. Just click on the “Feedback” button on the right side of any Sharein page and tell us what you think.

Once again, from the Sharein staff, THANK YOU!

Sharing to Facebook

1. You can now share to Facebook, in addition to Twitter and email.

2. We finally have a real dashboard! You get a quick snapshot of everything.

3. A simple activity feed shows you what’s happening around your shares i.e. comments.

4. A quick graph shows you what’s happening to the last 7 shares.

5. A new stat being launched is “reach”. If you shared on email, it shows you how many people you shared to. If its Twitter, it shows you what your follower count was *and* the count of folks who retweeted your share. So your potential maximum reach is much bigger! For Facebook, we are waiting for Facebook to officially releases their Open Stream API before we can pull that information.

Enjoy!
